Cold Sore Natural Remedies – Stopping the Fever Blister Eruption

On the internet you can find different cold sore natural remedies listed but the question is, how do you actually you use them. For instance, when I read about using a tea bag for the tannic acid, I wasn’t sure how this was used. In speaking with a doctor at the clinic where I work, I was advised to take a tea bag (it could be regular tea or earl grey) and steep it in water for a few minutes. Let it cool down. After it cools, use a paper towel and apply to the cold sore or herpes lesions.

A second suggestion to apply ice to the fever blister on your lip as early as possible. Apply it for a few minutes, wait fifteen minutes and apply it again for about an hour. Do this later in day as well. This works best if you can catch it very early. When you have a history of cold sore blisters you will become sensitive to that initial tingle that singles the beginning of a fever blister outbreak.

Internally, it is helpful to take lysine and a probiotic such as acidopholous or bifidus. Some cold sore patients reported that they found taking acidopholous early on seemed to stop the formation of their cold sore. Others say that taking the amino-acid l-lysine is very helpful in both preventing and treating their lesions on the lip.

For a child that may not be able to take capsules, yogurt is a good way to get the probiotics into the system. However, be sure that the yogurt has live cultures and doesn’t have gelatin in order to have the best results.
