Cold Sore Remedies – Knock Those Cold Sores Out!

Cold sores are caused by the oral herpes simplex virus. These appear as blisters and usually occur on the lips but can also appear on the roof of the mouth or on the gums. Trying a few cold sore remedies can help and also keep you from spreading it to someone else.

These cold sores when left untreated can be contagious and transmitted by sipping from an infected persons cup, or glass, eating from his fork, or even by sharing a towel.

When you get cold sores on your lips, these are very hard to hide and can be embarrassing. The following are some cold sore remedies that other people have tried.

Benadryl and Maalox mix

Take a tsp of benadryl every 6 hours for 14 days, and 1tsp of Maalox every 6 hours for the same time period. Add 500 mg of vitamin C a day.

Menthylated Spirits

When you start to feel the cold sore then put some methylated spirits on the affected area. Do this several times a day. Don’t bother if the cold sore has already come out.

L-lysine

This seems to be great at preventing a cold sore before it goes full blown, and for getting rid of full blown ones too.

Tea Bags

The tannic acid that tea bags have tend to reduce the inflammation. Place a wet tea bag on the cold sore several times throughout the day and at night. Use a fresh tea bag every time.

Neosporin

Neosporin is one of the great cold sore remedies. Clean the affected area and apply a little Neosporin. It will disappear by the next day.

Ear Wax

As soon as you feel one coming on, use your own earwax and place it on the affected area.
These are just a few cold sore remedies. There are many more to choose from and some work for some people and others for others. So, you just need to find the one that works for you.
